There are many kinds of centrifugal pumps, but their working principles are the same and their structures are similar. Its main working parts are a rotating impeller and a fixed pump casing. The impeller is a component of a centrifugal pump that directly works on liquid. It has several backward curved blades, generally 4-8. When the centrifugal pump works, the impeller is driven by the motor to rotate at a high speed (1000~3000r/min), forcing the liquid between the blades to rotate accordingly. At the same time, due to the action of centrifugal force, the liquid moves radially from the center of the impeller to the outer edge. The liquid gains energy in the movement process of flowing through the impeller leaves the outer edge of the impeller at high speed and enters the volute pump housing. In the spiral case, due to the gradual expansion of the flow channel, it decelerates, converts part of the kinetic energy into static pressure energy, reaches a higher pressure, and finally flows into the extrusion pipe along the tangential direction.
When the liquid is forced to flow from the center of the impeller to the outer edge, a vacuum is formed at the center of the impeller. One end of the suction pipeline of the pump is connected with the center of the impeller, and the other end is immersed in the transmitted liquid. Under the pressure difference between the liquid level pressure (usually atmospheric pressure) and the pressure (negative pressure) in the pump, the liquid enters the pump through the suction pipeline. As long as the impeller keeps rotating, the centrifugal pump will constantly suck in and discharge the liquid. It can be seen that a centrifugal pump mainly relies on the centrifugal force generated by the high-speed rotating impeller to transport liquid, so it is called a centrifugal pump.
If the centrifugal pump is not filled with liquid before starting, there is air in the pump. Because the air density is very small, the centrifugal force generated is also very small. The vacuum formed at the suction port is not enough to suck the liquid into the pump. Although the centrifugal pump is started, it cannot deliver the liquid. This phenomenon is called "air binding". Therefore, before starting the centrifugal pump, the shell must be filled with liquid, and a bottom valve with a filter screen must be installed at the bottom of the suction pipe. The bottom valve is the check valve to prevent the liquid filled before starting from leaking from the pump. The filter screen prevents solid substances from entering the pump. The pressure-out pipe near the pump outlet is equipped with a regulating valve for regulating the flow.
